Trillions of Dollars for Nothing

Did you know that Global Warming has taken the past eleven years off?

It’s true. Even Al Gore has been forced to admit it. Of course, the alarmists, in public, say that this is just a natural plateau, and that the warming will pick up again soon, and so we still need to gather in Copenhagen to consider taking some kind of drastic action that will require trillions of taxpayer dollars and a lower standard of living.

But what they’re saying in private tells a different story. In fact, an email from a scientist working with the U.N.’s International Planet on Climate Change calls it a “travesty” that “we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment.”

That’s an email you were never intended to see.

It was part of a group of emails hacked from the servers of Britain’s Climate Research Unit, many of which were in the process of being deleted before they would have to be released as part of an open records request. They reveal that scientists were eager to hide or massage data that didn’t support the theory of man-made warming, and they were working to discredit any respectable scientific outlet that expressed skepticism.

That, in a nutshell, is “Climategate.”

People are outraged about this, but for different reasons. Senator Boxer of California has no interest in what the Climategate emails actually say; she’s only interested in prosecuting the people who released them. Al Gore is upset that people continue to talk about this, falsely claiming on several occasions that the emails are a decade old, when, in fact, many of them are as recent as last month.

Well, I’m outraged, too.

I recognize that I’m in no position to evaluate the underlying science here, and I’m not trying to argue that man-made global warming isn’t happening. Even if these emails had never come to light, even if all the alarmists were 100% correct, even if all the polar ice caps really were melting, I’d still be disgusted with the Cap and Tax proposal now being considered to fix it.

That’s because the cure is worse than the disease.

Even the most rabid global warming alarmist concedes that, if fully enacted, the Cap and Tax proposal will have no significant effect on lowering global temperatures. They’re willing to commit trillions of dollars to a symbolic effort that they call a “good start,” but which does nothing to solve the problem. And now, we discover that they’re trying to conceal evidence that suggests that there may not be a problem in the first place.

The President is eager to make a symbolic gesture that cost trillions of dollars and accomplishes nothing. That, in my estimation, is the real scandal here.

From the title I had assumed this post would be about the Iraq War. For the topic of cap and trade it is inappropriate. Saying the Cap and Trade proposal will surely not work is simply naive. The economy, like the atmosphere, is a complex system that is not yet well understood. It may well be for nothing, or worse than nothing. It may be the greatest economic investment since the creation of DARPA.

Regardless of how likely you think global warming is, it is more likely than the WMDs and other fantasies used to justify our three billion dollar blunder ever had.

Why AREN’T you willing to argue that global warming isn’t happening? Are you trying to play both sides of the isle? We now know darn well, what we’ve suspected all along, since the hackers got into their info, that THERE IS NO GLOBAL WARMING !!! We just went through one of the coolest years in many history. Have you been outside lately?
Why are the Repubilcans even going along with it at all? Why aren’t you all raising cane in the House and Senate? Why aren’t you repeating over and over to them, “The jig is up? !! THERE IS NO GLOBAL WARMING!” It’s a power play, and not about the weather! Can’t you see that?

Okay, so President Obama gets the Nobel Prize for all of his work on peace that he hasn’t done anything on, and Al Gore got the Nobel Prize for his work on Global warming, that wasn’t based on real data and more on conjecture… I’m getting the feeling this Nobel Prize is not as valid as maybe it should be. Not as pertinent as Alfred Nobel had intended it to be!

The thing I don’t get is how cleaning up the planet is a bad idea? The cap and trade idea is gimmicky to say the least. I would rather have that money spent on renewable energy. Oil, coal, and natural gas are finite resources that will one day run out and that is a FACT. Building a energy infrastructure that has infinite energy is a smart move. Not only is it smart move from a pollution stand point but from a national security standpoint. Once those resources become rare there will be competition to get them. It would also create countless new jobs in the United States instead of overseas. Not only that but the majority of oil is being purchased from countries that do not like Americans or our culture, but yet we are giving them hundreds of billions of dollars every year. Plus new technology advances our country and would put us back in the lead for the most advanced country in the world.

I think this global warming is such nonsense and just a way to make money for some politicians. Al Gore does not do what he preaches in any way. Hang in there and do anything you can to fight it. I have voted for you in every election and as long as you continue in the same way I will vote for you. I would support you financially if I weren’t trying to help two daughters who are divorced. Wishing you the very best at this Christmas time.

I agree and think you are a breath of fresh air. Thank you for fighting for what you believe in. Throwing money at the problem through the cap-and-trade bill is a huge waste of money and creates so much more bureaucracy and government control over so many industries. I think it is a huge infringment on freedoms and a huge burden on business. I think the money could be better spent investing in new technologies and alternate fuels and also by incenting businesses and private citizens to clean up their current practices.

Senator Bennett, I believe you are an intelligent man. Irregardless of those emails, there are thousands and thousands of good, honest, legitimate scientists whose studies suggest that global warming is real. (For that matter, scientists and the U of U and BYU!) We can’t just put our heads in the sand for political reasons. It is irresponsible. We can never side with ignorance. If cap and trade isn’t a good idea, what do you suggest? I think many of us are open to ideas to make our planet healthier. We certainly cannot leave the responsibility to industry to do the right things to protect the atmosphere. Their goals are tied to profits. That too is incredibly important, but I want to leave this world in a better place for my children and grand children. Please share with us your ideas. Thank you.

Everyone keeps blaming Obama for all these issues and for spending all this money…. I agree he has influence but CONGRESS is the keeper of the check book. I think we have two serious problems.

I appreciate what you are trying to do Bob and for the most part I agree with you. We as a country must stop spending money on anything that is not essential. Health Care is not a federal issue…. and the list of things that the federal government is involved and shouldn’t be involved in is rediculously long.

With all the proposed fines penalties and other things the health care bill is proposing to charge the businesses of this great country will do nothing but cause the collapse of this economy as busineesses try to pass this on to consumers.

There are laws that say you must have car insurance… 1 out of 5 cars on the road are uninsured… why? Because the cost is to high.

There are not easy answers, this mess will require much sacrifice and restraint to get out of this one… May God Bless you Senator Bennet in the fight you are engaged in.

Sorry, I am not a gerat scientist, but a good old farmer girl. I never bought into the fear factor of global warming. It is like reinventing the wheel in congress. They write in bills that makes themselves important and fear is always good for upseting the people and getting more money for your pet project. Common sense has left the floor of congress.
