CONGRESS VOTES FOR A 12% INCREASE IN DISCRETIONARY FEDERAL SPENDING: BENNETT VOTES NO
Omnibus Appropriations Bill Also Includes Abortion Provision That Bennett Calls “Unacceptable”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – On a nearly party-line vote, the Senate today approved a $446 billion omnibus appropriations bill. Senator Bob Bennett (R-Utah) voted against the measure.
“While most Americans are tightening their belts in the middle of a serious recession, Washington today voted for a 12% increase in funding several discretionary spending accounts, well over last year’s levels,” Bennett said. “As a nation, we simply can’t afford to continue spending like this.”
Bennett also cited an abortion provision in the bill as “unacceptable.” This provision would allow taxpayer dollars to fund abortions in the District of Columbia.
“For over thirty years, it has been illegal to use taxpayer money to fund abortions,” Bennett said. “Democrats are working to undermine that law on every front, both in this bill and in their health care proposal. I find that entirely unacceptable.”
The omnibus bill combines six appropriations bills for Fiscal Year 2010: Â Transportation, Housing and Urban Development; Commerce, Justice, Science; Financial Services and General Government; Labor, Health and Human Services; Military Construction and Veterans Affairs; and State Foreign Operations.

Senator Bennett, Thank you for standing up for and voting in accordance with my feelings on these issues. I am so concerned with what is happening in our country.
At present I am unable to sign up to help with your campaign as I am dealing with a major trauma in my life. If things straighten out for me soon, I will commit to helping.
Thank you,
Nancy
Bob,
I think that increasing the debt limit is the wrong thing to do… this doesn’t get us out of debt nor curb the out of control spending.
Please push for an audit of the federal budget to delete all non essential programs and get this budget balanced. I think a bill requiring a balanced budget with penalties tied to Congressional salaries would be a good idea. If in two years the budget isn’t balanced each congressman and senator should have their pay cut by 10% each year until it is balanced. After two years of a balanced budget then their salaries can be increased 10% per year until it reaches their current, rediculously high rate.
Pay for performance – Kind of like the real world… Think about it before the next election…. because at the moment I am thinking ALL senators and congressmen should be replaced just to get rid of the “old boy” network.
Who ever will be the next Ben Franklin or Thomas Jefferson to lead this next, I believe forthcoming, revolution please contact me… I think it is time!
